Illustrative arithmetic, not financial advice, eligibility or a lender offer. How the tools work

01

Hold the inputs steady for a fair term comparison

A shorter term and a lower rate both affect cost. To see the effect of the term alone, hold principal and annual interest rate constant. The comparison tool does this while showing monthly payment, scheduled total and interest.

The term buttons are illustrative scenarios, not a menu of approved products. Actual available terms and whether a provider offers a $1,000 loan must be confirmed directly.

02

Find the payment that fits the lower-income month

The budget overlay subtracts essentials, existing payments, a reserve and the proposed installment from your entered monthly income. Use an income assumption appropriate to your situation, particularly when earnings fluctuate.

A plan that fits only a strong month can create a gap during an ordinary slow period. The self-employed and gig pages help organize that income evidence. Neither a well-prepared proof pack nor a positive budget result establishes approval.

03

Check the product minimum before treating the quote as comparable

A product that begins above $1,000 may not be a right-sized route for a $1,000 expense. Record the published minimum, maximum, relevant state and source date in the quote worksheet. Do not substitute another provider’s range or assume a national headline applies to the specific product.

This page does not display a live lender database. Provider fields stay as a checklist for actual quotes rather than a list of supposed partners. The amount-mismatch tool on the $600–$800 page can test a larger minimum numerically.

04

Read deductions before deciding whether the bill is covered

If a $1,000 principal has a withheld fee, the deposited amount is less than $1,000. The schedule may still be based on the full principal. Use the net-cash result to decide whether the quote actually addresses the expense.

For a quote with an APR and a separate fee, first identify the contract interest rate. APR is a cost-comparison measure that can include charges; adding those charges again to an APR-driven schedule can overstate the calculation. CFPB — Personal loans consumer resources

05

Use the schedule, not a rounded headline

A monthly estimate multiplied by the number of months may differ slightly from a schedule because interest and payments are rounded. Our model adjusts the last installment to clear the remaining modeled balance and exposes the schedule in the full calculator.

Actual agreements may use daily interest, irregular first periods or different fee treatment. Those differences require the agreement’s figures; this tool is not a substitute for the disclosure.

06

Before moving from planning to a provider

Have the amount, deadline and income evidence organized. Read the provider’s credit-inquiry and privacy disclosures, then inspect the actual repayment dates before agreeing to anything.

If a lower amount solves the expense, reduce the request instead of keeping the $1,000 preset. If the needed amount is genuinely larger, the range planner shows the incremental payment from $1,500 to $5,000 without creating a new product at every figure.
